Dr. Joan Butler
With a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction/Educational Leadership and Counseling, Dr. Joan Butler has prepared for a long profession in education. After years of teaching in the classroom and serving as a principal, she used her knowledge and experience on the university level teaching our future teachers. That alone answers the requirements of the Red Rose Award: she has benefited education and the status of women in educational leadership roles.
Dr. Butler's career has touched many educators as she has given 40 of her years to teaching and administrative experiences in Mississippi:

- Served as elementary classroom teacher
- university instructor
- trainer for MS Department of Ed
- elementary principal (Overstreet, Sudduth & Emerson)
- and the past 20 years was a Director of Family Centered Programs in the Starkville Oktibbeha School District
Dr. Butler continued sharing her accomplishments within the community:
- Board member for the Starkville Area Arts Council and the Starkville/MSU Symphony.
- Member and past President and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis
- Served on the Advisory Council for MSU School of Human Sciences
- Active in numerous professional organizations
- Member of First Baptist Church of Starkville
- Currently is chair of the Excel By 5 Oktibbeha Coalition
